Over 100 students ranging from year 7 to 11 from Howden School and Technology College recently participated at this year’s Rock Challenge event at Bridlington Spa. We achieved our highest ever success and now continue to rehearse for the Northern Finals in May. Our theme was based around the ‘Myth of South Africa’:
Flanked by Devils Peak to the east and Lions Head to the west: Table Mountain stands as a formidable South African Landmark, protecting the people of Cape Town.
One story has stood the test of time that the mountain’s creation was born out of the Devil’s anger. Enraged by the Lion’s requited love for the Sea, the Devil struck, banishing the Lion to stone. There the Lion remains, looking down over the Sea he once cherished so deeply.
The students have been rehearsing from September several times a week to perfect the performance for the competition. They have each shown a great deal of dedication and commitment and our hard work has finally paid off! Howden School and Technology College was awarded eight awards, including best drama, hair and makeup, scenery and choreography and overall second place, which allows us to be entered into the Northern Finals held at Grimsby Auditorium in May.
Mrs Doyle would like to take this opportunity to thank not only the students involved in Rock Challenge but also the staff and parents who helped with the overall organisation of the competition. Rock Challenge is a huge competition which takes up a lot of time and energy to organise, from the choreography to the set design, costumes and hair and makeup and this is just for the performance. All the support is much appreciated as such an event would not be possible without your assistance.
Well done to everyone involved and we are looking forward to the Northern Finals!!
